Tennis and Horoscopes

Oh boy, buckle up it is Virgo season. Not that I am biased, being a Virgo myself, but Virgo’s are the best sign. Based on your sign, BookRiot has a book for you this September. Nicole gives some insight on what is in store for the signs and what to read this month. But let’s summarize here:

Virgo (August 23-September 22):
“Feeling stuck in the past, Virgo? Planetary retrogrades are bringing back some issues you thought you’d overcome. But the solutions that have worked for you before aren’t what you need now. And letting yourself get lost in bad memories will only make things worse. Focus instead on the future and look at your problems with a fresh perspective. Wrinkles will smooth out by the end of the month. Read The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff. A 17th century servant girl, no longer able to withstand the abuse of humans in her colonial town, escapes into the wilderness to find a new way to survive. But in order to withstand the changing weather and beasts of an inhospitable landscape, she’ll need to adapt and shift her understanding of herself in relation to the world around her.”- BookRiot, https://bookriot.com/september-2023-horoscopes-and-book-recommendations/

Ok, that’s all that matters. IF you need to see other horoscopes for the month, check out the website above.

I discuss tennis and what is exactly the deal with the scoring? But, first off congrats to Coco Gauff on her U.S. Open win. She is the first American teen to win the tournament since Serena Williams in 1999.

I talk about some interesting facts about tennis1 , such as Wimbledeon started in 1877 and the US Open was first played in 1881. The “Grand Slam” consists of Wimbledon. the US Open, the French Open and the Australian Open.

The US Open is held over a two-week period between August and September usually in New York. Fun fact, the longest match in the US Open history occurred between Michael Chang (US) and Stefan Edberg (Sweden) during a semifinal match and it lasted 5 hours and 26 minutes!!2 How could this happen?? Well, it is all in the scoring. To win a game, a player must win 4 points and by a margin of 2. Each point scored is 15, 30 and then 40 (don’t ask why it’s not 45). So 1 point is 15, 2 points is 30 etc. 0 points is called “love”. The server’s score is always said first. So, if the server has 2 points and the other player has only 1 point, it would be 30-15. If the server had 0 points it would be love-15, equal scores of 40 is called “deuce” and play will continue to one player hits a 2 point margin. AND not only that, the player must win a set to win the game, a set consists of 6 games, again the player needs a 2 game margin to win a set.3
