Episode 325 – Let’s Talk About Bugs

What to expect: This year, the U.S., more specifically the midwestern United States, will see over a billion cicadas emerge as two broods are scheduled to appear at the same time for the first time in over 200 years. Sara has the details on who should expect to see the most activity. Plus, the library has a brand new resource for parents that Nicole is excited to chat about.

Ok, if you’re watching the pod on YouTube, please note the lighting is awful and I make a comment almost every episode. I will try not to do that in the blog, but truly, the lighting is terrible (but the content is great).

Strictly Business Trade Show is happening on Tuesday, May 7th with over 80 businesses, small and large, where you can find out about what is happening and maybe to network!

And don’t forget, Free Comic Book Day is May 4th! We have lots of free comics for you AS well as lots of graphic novels and manga to take out with your library card (so it’s free but you have to return them).

So there is lots of hub bub about the cicada broods about to pop out of the ground and I am here to discuss it. So there are 2 broods of cicadas that will be emerging this year, the great southern brood and the northern Illinois brood. Note: these broods will not be in New York. These two broods only sync up every 221 years!! Read more here! Fun fact, you can eat cicadas unless you are allergic to shellfish!! If you want more info on cicadas, check out these links: Britannica and Cicada.
