Thanks to the book, Movies of the 90s, we picked the classic Tom Cruise summer blockbuster MI2 for our movie chat. Ethan Hunt is at it again, saving the world, getting the ladies, and flipping his hair. The movie is full of fist fighting, face swapping, guns, and chases. It was a wee bit long for me, but Sal points out it is only 2 hours long. But if they took out all the slo-mo’s of Hunt’s hair tossing, the film would probably be a tight 90.
According to IMDB, the plot is as such: “Chimera is a deadly virus that will bear a grisly death unless you are given the antidote. The creator of Chimera is murdered and the antidote is stolen by a disavowed I.M.F. Agent, Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott). The Impossible Mission Force, (I.M.F.), hire the skilled and charming Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), and the beautiful Nyah Hall (Thandie Newton), who has had her share with Ambrose. Their mission, should they choose to accept it, is to send Hall undercover to Ambrose and learn what she can for Hunt to bring down Chimera, but they will have to break into a secure lab by jumping off of buildings and dodging bullets. Its impossible.”1
I think we all felt the same about it in that we would watch the other Mission Impossible’s but probably not that one again. We gave it around 7s across the board!
