Dennis, Sal and I watched the 2022 film Three Thousand Years of Longing, Rated R, that was directed by George Miller. The movie clocks in at 1 hour and 48 minutes and it does seem a little long at the end but does a pleasant job in the beginning. The movie is also based on the short story by A.S. Byatt titled “The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye”.
I chose this movie because I have always enjoyed the works of both Idris Elba (his series Luther is one of my favorites) and Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin, Constantine, and Only Lovers Left Alive to name a few)- and George Miller, I mean, Mad Max!
The movie is marked as a drama/romance, ignore that there is a djinn in the film, and the description is pretty accurate. The movie basically is the story of a djinn and the woman who can grant him his freedom by making 3 wishes of her own.
I don’t want to give anything away but it is indeed a love story where the last 30 minutes feels more like 3,000 years. I will say that I was hoping it would be better, more fantastical, more metaphorical, more action packed maybe?
